FACILITATION SKILLS WORKSHOP – THE BASICS

The Facilitation Skills Workshop addresses the specific skill set required by those individuals who wish to lead engaging and productive discussions around important issues affecting the community.
In this introductory program ‘The Basics’, participants will learn the essential ingredients of successful facilitation including pre-event preparation, the difference between teaching, imparting information and facilitation, and the essential skills required of a facilitator.
Participants attending this program should expect to leave with the following:
- Have a step-by-step strategy for preparing and planning the event
- Differentiate between teaching, leading discussion and facilitation and when each is appropriate
- Understand different learning and communication styles of participants and the facilitation strategies required to accommodate different styles
- Learn the essential facilitation skills: the art of inquiry, active listening , making connections and moving issues forward

Betty Healey, MEd., and Jim Healey, BSc. are seasoned facilitators, teachers and coaches. Their company roadSIGNS had been facilitating programs for both public and private sector for the past 21 years.
“The Basics” Workshop has been developed by Betty and Jim Healey of roadSIGNS, in consultation with Susan and John Towndrow of Transition Cornwall+, with the goal of developing a cadre of skilled facilitators for the Cornwall region.
